30 Hour Civil Mediation Training

Overview

EMI’s 30 hour client-centered civil mediation course is a 4 day training that provides a detailed introduction to mediation skills and techniques necessary to assist clients in reaching successful resolution.

The 30 hour training features a mix of lecture, featuring lecture, interactive exercises, role-playing and discussion. Role-plays are both “fish bowl” in which trainers demonstrate mediation, and “small group” in which participants apply what they are learning in role-play cases based on actual cases mediated by EMI. Case studies and role-plays include: workplace relationships, EEO claims, boundary/property disputes, personal injury money damages, sexual harassment, debt collection, and other large group conflicts.

  • Specific strategies for getting everyone to the table including identifying key players and setting the stage for cooperation
  • Information and definitions of key legal concepts
  • A client-centered, step-by-step mediation process that can be applied in a wide variety of conflicts and that based on clients’ creativity and their own sense of fairness.
  • Creative Interventions and strategies to use in the mediation room
  • Case examples that are useful, new and pertinent to today’s issues
  • Mediator skills and methodologies necessary to assist clients in reaching successful resolution of their disputes
  • A proven process of creative option development
  • Strategies to avoid impasse

Materials: As part of the training, you will receive a comprehensive training manual,a copy of The Practitioner’s Guide to Mediation, and copies of forms used by Erickson Mediation Institute.

Continuing Education Credits:  The training is approved by the MN Rule 114 Roster of Neutrals, the Association for Conflict Resolution, and qualifies for MN Continuing Legal Education credits.  Other credits may be applied for upon request.

Location: Unless otherwise indicated, the training will be held at our Bloomington, Minnesota location in the conference center.
